A unique event bringing together the richness of Aboriginal Australian history and the power of storytelling for business is coming to Hervey Bay.

HBNC is excited to announce the Storytelling Symposium – a one-day event running as part of Illuminate: 100 Days of Innovation and Creativity.

At this special Illuminate event, attendees will have the chance to hear from local marketing, media and communications experts about the emerging skill of storytelling.

One of the event highlights will be a special performance of Rekindle The Campfires. This truth-telling history of Australia from an Indigenous perspective encourages attendees to accept the past and move forward together.

Powerful original songs performed live by CobbleStone Family Band will offer a deeper understanding of our shared Australian history from an Aboriginal perspective.

HBNC Operations Manager, Christian Berechree, said the performance would help demonstrate the emotional impact and power of telling an honest and compelling story.

“Illuminate is about both innovation and creativity, so we want to create space to show that building skills is not just about attending training or gaining job experience. It’s also about life experience and listening to other perspectives,” Christian said.

“Rekindle the Campfires is a powerful piece of performance art and it will show viewers that a truthful, emotive story has a way of cutting through the noise.”

Christian said this concept could be applied to all aspects of communications, marketing and media, many of which will be explored at the Storytelling Symposium.

“There will be sessions on podcasting, journaling for self-reflection and awareness, meet the author talks, and how to use AI for storytelling,” Christian said.

“There will be something for everyone and we’re so excited to welcome well-known Fraser Coast media personalities like Andrew ‘Blandy’ Bland from Triple M to present at this event.”

The event runs between 9am and 2pm on Thursday, July 20th, at The Neighbourhood Hive, 184 Boat Harbour Dr Pialba. It is a free event, with activities happening throughout the day, so feel free to come and go as you like.
