Management Committee

Bernard Whebell

President (2018– Present); Vice-President (2017-2018); Committee Member (2013-present)

Bernard is a partner with Ulton Chartered Accountants and has lived in Hervey Bay since 2006. Having worked for a number of years in State Government, Bernard moved to Bundaberg and took up a position as an accountant with Hancock Sawyer Corpe who are now known as Ulton. In 2006 he moved to Hervey Bay and became a partner with the firm. Since 2006 Bernard has become active in Rotary and has also been president of the Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce for three years. He is married with 2 kids who have both gone to school in Hervey Bay.

Kirsti Kee

Vice President & Secretary (2018-present); President (2014-2017); Vice President (2010– 2014); 

Kirsti moved to Hervey Bay in 2005 and retired from the role of Executive Director, Education Queensland in Wide Bay Burnett in 2009. Her career began as a classroom teacher and took her to Malaysia, the Northern Territory and Queensland. Kirsti has also been a Business Manager and the Director of a TAFE Institute and owner/manager of a small catering business and delicatessen.

Kirsti’s community work ranges from playgroups and school P&Cs to service clubs, cycling groups and surf lifesaving. She is also involved with a number of other community groups in Hervey Bay. Kirsti has four grandchildren and enjoys travelling overseas to visit two of them. During these trips, she usually manages to indulge her interest in long-distance walking. Fortunately, two of her grandchildren live in Brisbane and enjoy visiting Hervey Bay.

Danny Mattsson

Treasurer (2016-Present); Vice President (2014-2016); Committee Member (2011– 2014)

Danny is a long-time resident of Hervey Bay, having attended the local high school more than 40 years ago. While Danny retired from his day job over 5 years ago, he still has a passion for Financial Planning and Business, which assists in his current role as Treasurer. Even before joining the Committee, Danny brought a lot to the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre Inc.; he was the Fund Raising Chairman of the New Hervey Bay Community Centre, and the ‘Tour de Bay’ was his brainstorm! Danny is a charter member of The Rotary Club of Hervey Bay-Sunrise. He enjoys a happy family life with his wife Beryl and their four accomplished children.

Stephen Bell

Committee Member (2017 – Present)

Stephen Bell is a registered Psychologist with over 24 years of experience.  Stephen has worked in specialist and acute public mental health services and he has 10 years experience in senior and executive leadership positions with Queensland Health providing organisational leadership, governance, strategy and operational management.  Stephen has post-graduate qualifications in management, is an associate Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management and is also a Nationally Accredited Mediator. 

Darren Bosley

Committee Member (2018 – Present)

Darren began a media career with News Ltd in Adelaide in 1995 which included various management roles across Australia over 15 years. In 2010 he moved his family to Hervey Bay and was General Manager for the Fraser Coast Chronicle for 5 years. His passion for the region and his belief in the benefits of raising a family here has seen been involved with a number of community projects including the President of Fraser Coast Mates. He is a Director of his marketing company Tranquility Media and enjoys golf when he has spare time.

Ivan Mapp

Committee Member (2019 – Present)

Ivan retired to Hervey Bay in 2014 and has spent holidays in the Bay for over 25 years.  He is a mechanical engineer that spent over 36 years in the electricity industry mainly in power stations.  Ivan and his family spent 21 years in Biloela before moving to Chinchilla to take up the managers role at Kogan Creek Power Station in 2009.  He has been an active member of Rotary since 2000 and was President of Hervey Bay Sunrise Rotary club in 2017/18.  Ivan is involved with Riding for Disabled where his wife Robyn is a coach.  He enjoys anything outdoor including golf, fishing and clay target shooting.  He has two married daughters and has recently become a granddad.

Miesha Baumann

Committee Member (2019 – Present)

Miesha was born and bred in Hervey Bay. After attending the local primary (1971-1977) and high school (1978-1983), in 1984 Miesha worked in Administration at the Maryborough Tafe College before transferring to the Hervey Bay Senior College in 1990.

 

Fiona Terrell

Committee Member (2020 – Present)

Fiona is the principal solicitor of the Hervey Bay office of Carswell & Co Solicitors where she has worked since 2011.  She has lived in Hervey Bay since 2005 and has had a long involvement with HBNC as her two now teenage children attended the Limited Hours Day Care and she has volunteered her time with the Taylor Street Community Legal Service since 2011.  Fiona has been involved with many community organisations mainly focusing around her work and her children such as the local District Law Association, school P&C’s and cub scouts.  Her children have attended local public schools from Prep to Grade 12. 

Prior to being admitted as a solicitor in 2011 Fiona worked in the property industry in both the private and public and sectors having previously been a registered valuer and commercial property manager.  Fiona worked as in the Northern Territory as Operational Policy Manager for the housing commission and Manager of Property Agents Licensing for the Office of Fair Trading and in NSW managing the property assets of various local governments in Sydney. 

Ross Zelow

Secretary (2020 - Present)

Ross and his family moved to Hervey Bay in 1999 when he became Principal of Urangan State High School and remained in that role until 2015. He then took on the role as an Assistant Regional Director where he had responsibility for schools in the Maryborough, Hervey Bay and Bundaberg areas of the Wide Bay region until his retirement in 2019.

Ross is very passionate about supporting youth, families, and communities through his experiences as a teacher, head of department, deputy principal, principal, leadership coach, and assistant regional director in urban, rural and remote settings and is committed to ensuring that everyone can access the right support, however remote or isolated they may be.
