A new petition makes it easy to add your voice to calls for housing change.

HBNC has launched an online petition, gathering support for a proposed change to Fraser Coast Local Law, which would allow caravans to be used as temporary housing on residential properties for up to 6 months.

Most Fraser Coast councillors voted in support of the local law change at the October council meeting. It will now go to the State Government and community for consultation.

HBNC CEO Tanya Stevenson said this law change would be a small but meaningful improvement for people experiencing homelessness in our community. She said the idea was one of the proposals outlined in the recently updated Strategic Housing Paper.

“A short-term goal identified in the Strategic Housing Paper most relevant to the Council relates to the approval of caravans being allowed to remain on residential properties for up to six months,” Tanya said.

“This has the potential to provide immediate accommodation and could allow the community to support each other during the housing shortage.”
