Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.

This quote, from an unknown author, could not be more true of the hundreds of volunteers who dedicate their time to serving the community's most vulnerable, through supporting HBNC's programs.

HBNC Operations Manager, Christian Berechree, shared this quote at today's Volunteer Christmas Party.

He said the party was a chance to celebrate and thank the volunteers who make HBNC's work possible.

"This year, we have recorded close to 16,000 volunteer hours across our programs and services," Christian said.

"That is testament to the incredible generosity and servant-heartedness of these community members who willingly give up their time to make Hervey Bay a better place for the Fraser Coast's most vulnerable.

"It's only right we take some time out to serve a meal a throw a party for people who do so much."

HBNC CEO, Tanya Stevenson, added her thanks to HBNC's wonderful volunteers.

"We really could not do this without you," Tanya said.

She congratulated James Turner for reaching his 15-year volunteering milestone with HBNC.

James has been a Youth Mentor for many years, as well as being involved in a number of other programs.

HBNC President, Bernard Whebell, was also acknowledged for 10 years of volunteering service.
