The new Street Library at the Hervey Bay Community Centre is already proving to be a hit.

Mayor George Seymour stopped by to drop some books off, just in time for Book Week.

He met with HBNC CEO Tanya Stevenson, Operations Manager Christian Berechree and Play With Your Kids team members Maree Twomey and Tracey Pauli.

Mr Seymour is an avid reader, researcher and amateur historian. He says the Street Library is a great initiative, allowing community members to share a love of books.

"Street Libraries are an amazing concept. Bring your books that you've read, leave them for others to enjoy and pick up news books," he said.

"Please contribute with the books you've enjoyed that you'd like other people to enjoy too, or pick up a new read."

The Street Library, built by Hervey Bay Men's Shed and provided by Hervey Bay Rotary Sunrise, is located in the Kindness Garden, on the Torquay Rd side of the community centre.
