The Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre is committed to following all Queensland Government directions regarding COVID-19 vaccinations.

While we fully support the individual choices of members of the community, the new regulations will mean some changes to our service delivery as of December 17th.

At this stage, the only services that will be directly impacted by COVID-19 vaccination mandates are those involving food and hospitality, venue hire, and some Aged and Disability services, namely:

  • Comfort Kitchen free community meal
  • Christmas Day lunch – Hervey Bay RSL Picnic in the Park
  • The Wandering Teapot café (closing from December 17th, reopening January 10th)
  • CHSP and NDIS

As per government guidelines, staff, volunteers, clients and patrons for these events and services must be fully vaccinated, or numbers must be restricted to 20 people (or one person per four square metres, whichever is less).

For this reason, until further notice we will offer a takeaway-only service for Comfort Kitchen and Christmas Day lunch. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required for service at The Wandering Teapot Cafe.

We want to continue meeting the needs of the community’s most vulnerable and changing our service delivery in this way enables us to do that.

These restrictions also apply to event organisers, community groups and organisations hiring our venues. Please note: While HBNC will make every effort to provide a COVID-safe venue, it is the hirer’s responsibility to ensure the directions are followed.

At this stage, no other HBNC services will be affected by the vaccine mandate. General entry to the community centre will not be restricted. This may change depending on government advice.

In the case of community transmission in our region, the centre will close to the public.

We understand this may be disappointing for some members of our community and we thank you for your understanding. It is our goal to follow government directions while continuing to support as many people in our community as we can.
