Pialba, QLD: Having a baby is often the beginning of a transformational journey for new parents. It can also be an overwhelming experience, with young parents experiencing their own unique challenges.

The Bub Hub, an initiative by the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre and City Women Hervey Bay, aims to support young parents as they begin their parenting journey.

It is a space where parents under 25 years can come together, free of charge, to share their parenting experiences and support each other.

Held at The Neighbourhood Hive and supported by the Hervey Bay RSL, the Bub Hub provides a safe and supportive environment where young parents can let down their guard and share with their peers. It is a space for young parents to talk freely in a non-judgmental environment with other young parents.

Parents can seek help with coping strategies, receive helpful tips and recipes while the kids enjoy the indoor playground, donated by Stockland Hervey Bay.

This initiative is open to all young parents under 25 years for free and is delivered at The Neighbourhood Hive every Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 11 AM.

HBNC Operations Manager, Christian Berechree said the Bub Hub was a welcome addition to the new Neighbourhood Hive.

“This is exactly what we want to see happen in this space – community members coming together to learn from each other, share their experience and connect in a meaningful way,” Christian said.

HBNC Bay Families Coordinator, Ruth Huber, said this service filled a gap in the community.

“We are excited to offer a space just for young parents as we know their experience of parenting is unique. There’s so much they can gain from each other, simply by coming together to connect and learn,” Ruth said.

The Bub Hub also offers a space where parents can borrow baby items such as prams and cots. This initiative, set up in a creatively decorated shipping container, is the brainchild of City Women Hervey Bay.
