More than 150 riders, walkers and volunteers gathered at the crack of dawn on Sunday for the 10th anniversary of Hervey Bay’s favourite charity bike ride.

The Hervey Bay RSL Tour De Bay went off without a hitch. Most importantly, more than $15,000 was raised to support the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre’s (HBNC) Youth Mentoring Program.

HBNC CEO, Tanya Stevenson, said it was wonderful to see so many riders and volunteers come together to make the event a success.

“We are so thankful for the support the community has shown for this event,” Tanya said.

“I’d like to thank our major sponsor, Hervey Bay RSL, as well as all the other local businesses who supported Tour De Bay this year. This include Baker’s Delights, Night Owl and Woolworths Pialba, who donated food and water for the day.

“A special thank you also goes to our hardworking volunteers, particularly Phil Dare who works tirelessly every year to make this event happen. Phil, Jeswin and Josh really dug deep this weekend to make sure the course signs were all in place, keeping riders safe and on track.

“Thank you also to the crew from Rotary who provided the delicious breakfast on the day, MC Robert Garland and everyone else who pitched in to make it all happen.”

Tanya said feedback from the riders had been incredibly positive, with many praising the scenic ride and well-run event.

“We are proud to not only offer this wonderful riding opportunity but to give people a chance to support such a worthy cause as the Youth Mentoring program,” Tanya said.
