“The most worthwhile thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others”

– Robert Baden-Powell, founder of Scouts Worldwide

For the past 10 weeks, the local Craignish Scout group have been actively engaged in their ‘Locals helping locals’ challenge.

The children have been working hard to earn money through various tasks in order to purchase gifts for someone in need and earn their ‘Messengers of Peace’ badge.

After reaching out to the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre, the Scouts decided to buy non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products, to be distributed through the centre’s Bless Box and Hot Shower Pack programs.

“The children have learned a lot from completing this badge and we are happy to see everything go to a worthwhile cause,” said Melissa, Scout Leader.

Christian Berechree, HBNC Operations Manager, said it was so encouraging to see young people finding a way to give back to the community, especially at Christmas time.

“We are so grateful to the Scouts for the hard work and generosity, and for this wonderful donation,” Christian said.

“A lot of people may not realise how many people are doing it tough in our beautiful community and these items will help brighten the Christmas period.
