BEATS team members Gabi, Oni, Josh and Sheenah These workshops aim to spark creativity and foster new skills, giving participants a real taste of what it's like to work in these dynamic fields. A vital aspect of the BEATS program is its commitment to accessibility and support. Participants are provided with transportation home or to an approved residence, as well as a nutritious meal, ensuring young people can fully engage in the program without barriers. Sheenah Heinonen, HBNC's Family, Children & Youth Manager, said BEATS would be a welcome addition to HBNC’s programs, offering something new for young people in our community. "We are incredibly excited to launch BEATS and offer our youth an opportunity to discover their potential in such vibrant industries," Sheenah said. "This program is not just about learning new skills; it's about inspiring confidence, creativity, and a sense of possibility in every participant." BEATS is hosted at The Neighbourhood Hive, HBNC’s unique learning and innovation hub, which provides an ideal environment for young minds to explore and grow. By operating outside of standard business hours, BEATS ensures that students can participate without conflicting with their school commitments. The BEATS program represents HBNC’s ongoing dedication to creating supportive, inclusive, and innovative opportunities for youth in our community. The HBNC team will work directly with schools and other services to identify and engage participants for BEATS. While this program is not open to referrals from the general community, community members looking for something similar can consider the Young Entrepreneurs Hustle Hub, delivering $20 Boss - a FREE 9-week Young Change Agents Program for 12-17 year olds. BEATS is funded by the Department of Youth Justice.
