About us News Budding masterchefs face off in The Wandering Teapot kitchen. Students put their finely-honed cooking skills to the test to finish off a successful first intake of Skilling Queenslanders for Work with The Wandering Teapot. SQW participants faced off in a cook-off, held in good fun to see who reigned supreme in the HBNC kitchen. Charles and Georgina from Galangoor D’Walami Health Care Service gifted students a $25 budget to create, prepare and cook their own special dish. These were then judged by a panel, with the winner receiving The Golden Spoon Award. Lesa Stagg, project officer said it was the perfect way to cap off a highly successful first round of hospitality training. "The students were so excited to get in the kitchen and create their masterpieces. It was a fun event," Lesa said. Pepe Akaveka, Seana from Axiom, Georgina from Galangoor, Les Raveneau from USC, HBNC CEO Tanya Stevenson and Lewis Akaveka with the Golden Spoon. Each student created their very own dish from scratch, while Seana from Axiom, and Georgina from Galangoor helped facilitate in the kitchen. Each student was given a voucher (kindly gifted by Les Raveneau from USC) for their outstanding performance in the kitchen, and Lewis Akaveka was crowned the winner of The Golden Spoon for his creation of a Sublime Salted Caramel Tart. This was the final week of the training program, which is a unique opportunity to complete a Certificate II in Hospitality while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in The Wandering Teapot’s café and catering business. 11 young jobseekers have recently graduated from the program and some have already found jobs.
