Youth Mentoring Program The Hervey Bay Youth Mentoring Program is for young people within the school system who are experiencing difficulty interacting, participating and contributing to the community in positive, constructive and respectful ways. It is a model of linking community members with young people who may need extra support in these transitional stages. All it takes to be a Youth Mentor, is a commitment to spend approximately two hours a week with a young person. To support mentors, a short course at TAFE is offered. Topics include: Mentors will be placed with young people to provide positive role models and influences. Mentors will share their life experiences with young people in order to improve their capacity to cope with important transition points in their lives. Through these relationships and friendships, mentors will provide positive feedback to encourage young people to achieve their goals in life (ie education, training, employment and intellectual, physical, social, emotional, spiritual development).
